Barnaby Skye, the most durable and unforgettable character in modern Western fiction, returns in this harrowing tale of survival from his early years in the Rockies.

In the midst of a brutal winter, Skye's beloved Crow Indian wife, Victoria, is critically wounded when a Blackfeet raiding party attacks a Crow hunting camp.

Despite Skye's attempts at doctoring, Victoria's life hangs in the balance as the two, left alone in the frozen wilderness, struggle to survive cold and starvation.

Miraculously, an old mare and her foal wander into their camp.

Victoria believes they have been sent by her spirit guide, and finds the strength to ride.

Skye and his wife make their way toward Victoria's home village on the Musselshell River.

Breaking winter trail is a slow and laborious process, but at the end of the journey they will find peace.

Or will they? Skye's love of whiskey puts his life, and Victoria's, in peril when they encounter a renegade band of Yankee traders taking a wagon-load of a cheap and poisonous raw alcohol to trade among the Indians.

Their leader, a former West Point officer, forces Skye to guide them, but all the while the legendary mountain man plots to ruin their deadly enterprise.

From the internationally bestselling author of Sarah comes the riveting story of the remarkable woman who walked beside Moses.

Although she is a Cushite by birth—one of the people of the lands to the south—Zipporah grew up as the beloved daughter of Jethro, high priest and sage of the Midianites.

But the color of Zipporah’s skin sets her apart, making her an outsider to the men of her adopted tribe, who do not want her as a wife.

Then one day while drawing water from a well, she meets a handsome young stranger.

Like her, he is an outsider.

A Hebrew raised in the house of the Egyptian Pharaoh, Moses is a fugitive, forced to flee his homeland.

Zipporah realizes that this man will be the husband and partner she never thought she would have.

Moses wants nothing more than a peaceful life with the Midianites, but Zipporah won’t let Moses forget his past—or turn away from his true destiny.

She refuses to marry him until he returns to Egypt to free his people.

When God reveals himself to Moses in a burning bush, his words echo Zipporah’s, and Moses returns to Egypt with his passionate and generous wife by his side.

A woman ahead of her time, Zipporah leaps from the pages of this remarkable novel.

The Scarlet Pimpernel (A Classic Illustrated Novel Of Baroness Orczy)-Perpustakaan.org

Author : Baroness Orczy
Published by Independently PublishedPublished since 2022-02-17

A timeless novel of adventure, intrigue, and romance is sparked by one man's defiance in the face of authority...

The year is 1792.

The French Revolution, driven to excess by its own triumph, has turned into a reign of terror.

Daily, tumbrels bearing new victims to the guillotine roll over the cobbled streets of Paris....

Thus the stage is set for one of the most enthralling novels of historical adventure ever written.

The mysterious figure known as the Scarlet Pimpernel, sworn to rescue helpless men, women, and children from their doom; his implacable foe, the French agent Chauvelin, relentlessly hunting him down; and lovely Marguerite Blakeney, a beautiful French exile married to an English lord and caught in a terrible conflict of loyalties-all play their parts in a suspenseful tale that ranges from the squalid slums of Paris to the aristocratic salons of London, from intrigue on a great English country estate to the final denouement on the cliffs of the French coast.

There have been many imitations of The Scarlet Pimpernel, but none has ever equaled its superb sense of color and drama and its irresistible gift of wonderfully romantic escape.

White Noise-Perpustakaan.org

Author : Don DeLillo
Published by PenguinPublished since 1999-06-01

A brilliant satire of mass culture and the numbing effects of technology, White Noise tells the story of Jack Gladney, a teacher of Hitler studies at a liberal arts college in Middle America.

Jack and his fourth wife, Babette, bound by their love, fear of death, and four ultramodern offspring, navigate the rocky passages of family life to the background babble of brand-name consumerism.

Then a lethal black chemical cloud, unleashed by an industrial accident, floats over there lives, an "airborne toxic event" that is a more urgent and visible version of the white noise engulfing the Gladneys—the radio transmissions, sirens, microwaves, and TV murmurings that constitute the music of American magic and dread.

After marrying Olivia Langdon in 1870, he moved to Hartford, Connecticut.

He had 4 children including 3 daughters: Susan, Clara and Jeanne and a son who died prematurely.

In his early novels, Mark Twain evokes his travels in Europe and Polynesia (The Journey of the Innocents, 1869) by mocking the prejudices and conduct of his compatriots, as well as his period as a researcher of gold and journalist on the Comstock Lode, in Hard Times (Mark Twain) (1872).

Sent by his journal in Polynesia in 1866, Mark Twain spends 4 months, sympathizes with sailors and whalers, rents a horse, and notes the dramatic decline of the original population, Kanaka Maoli.

He reports reports and a series of letters published by the Sacramento Union, and then collected in a book in 1947, Letters from Hawaii. It is thanks to his two novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885) that he gains fame as a comic writer.

Mark Twain, however, writes in the second part of his work more serious texts pessimistically denouncing the excesses of civilization and immorality erected in morality.

The end of her life is clouded by financial troubles, as well as the death of one of her daughters at age 24 caused by meningitis and the death of his wife.

He loses a second girl, aged 29, drowned in her bathtub after an epileptic seizure.
